Local papers pull out of awards ceremony amidst Mayweather convictions
Two papers, leading the local Women of the Year awards ceremony, have changed venues in protest over its hosting of a convicted domestic abuser.
The Bristol Post and The Bath Chronicle are refusing to use the Bristol's City Centre Marriott - as Floyd Mayweather Jnr will be appearing at the venue on International Women's Day.
The ceremony was due to take place on Thursday 9 March at the Marriott - the day after the champion boxer is appearing at the venue as part of his "Undefeated Tour" event.
The convicted domestic abuse boxer is currently on a meet-and-greet tour with fans. He had been on one of these events at Birimingham on Saturday, later that night his van was destroyed in an arson attack.
Tonight there will be a planned silent protest organised by Bristol Women's Voice outside of the Marriott, whilst Mayweather will be appearing.
