PC quits Devon and Cornwall Police
A Police Constable has quit her job with Devon and Cornwall Police and has taken to social media to explain why, listing some of the ways she thinks the force has failed her.
Laura Beal worked as a Police Constable for Devon and Cornwall Police for 13 years.
At 19, she joined the force to follow in her father's footsteps.
However, she recently quit her job and in her resignation letter listed a number of areas in which she feels the force is lacking.
In her letter to Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer, which she subsequently posted on Facebook, Laura said that as her 'career has progressed the total lack of support both governmental and from the Chief Officer Group has made me lose all faith in the job I loved."
Laura drew attention to the ways in which she was "expected to go on patrol covering Mid-Devon with one other officer most days." She does not believe that this was "adequate staffing and safe."
She goes on to say that because of the way she was "treated within this organisation" she has had to "undergo Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as I now suffer with anxiety, depression and stress."
Laura criticised Devon and Cornwall Police for being "more like a business now in how we function in relation to finance and 'customer' relations, yet we are so far behind on employee rights."
She concluded her resignation letter by telling the Chief Constable that "It is your responsibility to make this right; the front line needs more officers, leadership and managerial support."
