Lee Johnson: 'Burton match not must-win for me personally'
Bristol City Head Coach Lee Johnson has dismissed the suggestion that this weekend's match against Burton is a 'must win' game for him personally.
"No, because I feel like we are still in the mix and I feel like this is a club where I've had support from the board from start to finish and that's continued."
Johnson's position is under mounting scrutiny after a Championship run of results that has seen City register only one Championship win in their last fifteen games.
The Robins now hover precariously above the relegation zone on goal difference alone. Victory against Burton would see City leapfrog their opponents.
When asked directly if he still has the backing of the owner, Johnson replied:
"Yes absolutely. They've been top, top class, I have to say. Obviously Steve Lansdown and Maggie his wife, who own the club, have been outstanding in their support, as has every member of the board. For me, it's been a fantastic place to work and I want to continue to work here."
Only last Friday Bristol City owner, Steve Lansdown, told ITV News West Country that he couldn't guarantee Johnson's position until the end of the season.
And the Bristol City manager was honest in his assessment of his team's position.
"The table doesn't lie. It's obviously been disappointing. There have been mitigating factors in elements of what's gone on and in other elements we haven't been good enough. We have to accept that because we've got this many games left now to go and give it everything to make sure we are still competing at Championship level next year."
