Heath investigation detective in misconduct inquiry

The detective in charge of investigating claims of historical child abuse against former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath is himself being investigated for 'misconduct', Wiltshire Police has confirmed.

Supt Sean Memory is currently off work through sickness - although police will not release any further details of what his sickness is.

The misconduct investigation is not related to Operation Conifer or Supt Memory's work as the senior investigating officer in the Heath investigation.

In a statement issued by the force following 'a number of approaches from the media' regarding Operation Conifer, Wiltshire Police said:

The force also stressed there was no risk to Operation Conifer and the investigation would now be overseen by Supt Steve Kirby.

Wiltshire Police also confirmed the force had every confidence in how the investigation has been conducted to date.
