Dance class faces shortage of women
A ballroom dancing class in Exeter is crying out for more women to take part.
The classes each Wednesday morning, at America Hall, have attracted plenty of men keen to learn the classic steps but there's a serious lack of women.
Michael Williams is often left without a dance partner at the class.
He said, "we could do with a few more ladies, we are hoping a few more will come...the instructor comes and takes me around, which is very good."
The instructor Wendy Richards is doing her best but admits the shortage of lady partners is a problem right now.
"it's really unusual because there are usually too many ladies, and then you have to pair ladies with the ladies."
"I think the reason why we don't get many ladies is because nowadays ladies have to work longer, so into their sixties, they don't retire early anymore."
This is a class for absolute beginners or these who have danced in the past and the men are loving it.
Peter Wilson, a member of the class said, "it's something I never thought I would do to be honest and all of a sudden, I was like i'll give it a try. The company is good, also it's good exercise."
The class are hoping that more women will attend in the future and enjoy not only the dancing but the opportunity to meet new people.
For anyone wanting to join, the dance classes take place every Wednesday, 10am in America Hall, De La Rue Way, Exeter, EX4 8PX.
