Carol Vorderman has delivered a petition to Number 10 Downing Street, calling for the knighthood of Britain's last surviving Dambuster.

The Countdown star started the campaign after claiming George 'Johnny' Johnson, 95, was overlooked in the New Year's honours list.

"It's clear that the British public want heroes like Johnny to be given the respect they deserve," Vorderman said after more than 200,000 people signed the petition.

She added: "The response has been overwhelming and cannot be ignored. His story is as relevant today as it ever was. In addition, Johnny has devoted his life to helping others and continues to do so with his charity work and work with young people."

The Dambusters was an attack on German Dams at a pivotal moment in WW2

Leaving Downing Street, Carol was optimistic about her campaign and securing a coveted knighthood for Johnny.

Johnny Johnson, from Bristol, is the last surviving member of the famous Dambusters raid in 1943 which destroyed parts of Germany's industrial heartland using the innovative 'bouncing bomb'.

He's since dedicated his life to teaching children and helping people with mental health problems.

Former RAF pilot, Ken Trent, called bomb-aimer Johnny "the bravest of the brave".
