Bristol City sign Schalke goalkeeper Fabian Giefer on loan

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has further bolstered his first team squad by bringing in German goalkeeper Fabian Giefer from Bundesliga club Schalke.

The 26 year-old has signed on loan until the end of the season and is expected to slot straight into the starting line-up for Saturday's big Championship match at Nottingham Forest.

Giefer began his professional career at Bayer Leverkusen but has lost the last two years at Schalke to serious injury.

He is the fourth signing Bristol City have made in this January transfer window as the club desperately seeks to improve on a desperate string of results which has seen them lose ten of their last 11 Championship matches.
