Devon's Air Ambulance is on the look out for new evening landing sites that will allow them to speed up their response times.

They are now asking for people in Devon to volunteer suitable areas for landing.

What does a landing site look like?

  • It needs to be a flat open area of at least 50m x 50m

  • It could be on grass, tarmac or concrete

  • It needs pedestrian access onto the site and vehicle access close by

  • A nearby power source for lighting is useful although not essential

  • Tall trees or power lines within the site might be a hazard

The search comes just weeks after the service announced its helicopters are now equipped to fly in the dark.

The pilots use special night vision goggles, which cost £18,000 each, to navigate their way around the dark skies. The new technology means that the ambulance can now reach even more people.
