Fight over the future of Bath Central Library
It's a purpose-built library for the people of Bath in the heart of the city. But now the council wants to move it to another building as part of cost-cutting measures.
It's something that's upset many residents and authors, who say it will result in a vital community hub being lost.
Bath and North East Somerset Council want to move the central library to a council building on Manvers Street. It's a move that's upset many.
Nearly two and a half thousand people have signed a petition against the move. And a protest will take place on Saturday (14/01).
But the council says it has to save 49 million pounds over the next four years and moving the library will help them achieve this.
Children's author David Almond is among many famous names to have joined the campaign to save the library.
If plans go ahead the new library will be open here in 2018. The council says it's part of its plan to modernise services for the future. But other say it's a backwards step.
