The Countdown and I'm a Celebrity star Carol Vorderman has begun a campaign to get the last surviving Dambuster a knighthood.

She started a petition after George 'Johnny' Johnson, who's from Bristol, was overlooked in the New Year's Honours list. It's already been signed by 150,000 people and Vorderman is planning to deliver it to Downing Street at the end of the month.

Vorderman says she was "overwhelmed and humbled" when she met the 95 year-old.

She added, "many of us were extremely disappointed that, in spite of being nominated, he was overlooked in this year's New Year Honours list. I can't think of anyone who deserves a knighthood more than Johnny."

"He is an incredible man who volunteered for one of the most dangerous missions during World War II. And since then he has been a teacher, a counsellor, endlessly supported young people and raised huge amounts for charity."

The World War Two hero is the last surviving member of the famous Dambusters raid in 1943 which destroyed parts of Germany's industrial heartland using the innovative 'bouncing bomb'.
