Wisemen - and women - joined shepherds, angels, and of course Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus to smash the previous record.

The joint effort by Calne Town Council and Bible Society saw 1,254 people come together, wearing traditional costumes.

  • The previous record was set by 1,039 volunteers in Utah, USA in December 2014.

The mammoth effort involved the entire town, with the local laundrette providing sheets for costumes, pubs and hotels providing waiting areas and schools and charities taking part.
