'It'll probably get them run over': parents protest over threatened loss of school bus

Children and parents in a Somerset town expect to learn this week whether they'll lose their free school bus.

The County has recently checked the route from North Petherton to Robert Blake school in Bridgwater and found most children live within the 3 mile limit.

Parents say the route isn't safe.

Some of the parents demonstrated why they thought walking isn't safe.

They claim this spot is the narrowest place on the entire 292 miles of the A38:

Another concern on the road between North Petherton and the school is a giant roundabout next to the Motorway.

It's recently been upgraded but parents say children shouldn't have to negotiate it.

If the decision goes against them most parents will somehow find car transport, and that means scores more vehicles joining the daily traffic jam into Bridgwater.

In a statement Somerset County Council said "Council officers will receive a formal route assessment report within the next week which will consider all aspects of safety. Should the route be assessed as safe then free school transport will be withdrawn from non-entitled children over the Christmas break."
