A hit-and-run driver has been jailed after shocking footage emerged of him hitting a schoolgirl with his van and then driving away.

CCTV from a local neighbourhood watch camera in Bristol shows the 15 year old approach the road - she waits for a driver to pass before stepping out into the street.

But as she reaches the central divide, another driver speeds around the corner and hits her head on with his van.

It happened in a 20 mph zone.

Driver Anthony Duggan, who was uninsured, dragged the girl to the pavement before fleeing the scene.

The young girl escaped with cuts and bruises, but neighbours say a younger or older victim may not have been so lucky.

Duggan, who was uninsured, was jailed for six months after being convicted of dangerous driving, failure to stop, and driving without a licence and insurance. He was also banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay compensation of £300.

Bristol Magistrates told Duggan the offence was particularly serious because he had no licence and abandoned the girl by the road.
