Exeter firefighters who fought hotel blaze to turn on city's Christmas lights
The city of Exeter will thank the firemen who helped tackle the devastating blaze at the Royal Clarence Hotel with a service at Exeter Cathedral and the chance to turn on the city's Christmas lights.
The service to thank the emergency crews for their efforts is to be held at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday morning and the Christmas lights will be turned on on November 17.
It follows the devastating fire, which broke out last month, destroying the historic Royal Clarence Hotel.
The fire which destroyed the hotel in late October was burning for the best part of 50 hours.
Dozens of firefighters were mobilised to the site of the fire opposite Exeter Cathedral and adjacent to the high street.
The fire completely gutted the hotel and demolition workers moved in days later to knock down what was left.
The repair of the hotel could cost £25 million.
