Controversial Cribbs Causeway expansion gets go ahead

A major expansion of the Mall at Cribbs Causeway has been given the green light by South Gloucestershire Council. It will still need to be approved by the Secretary of State.

The scheme includes more than 35,000 square metres of retail floor space, leisure, and hotel and restaurant facilities alongside a new multi-storey car park, an events plaza and up to 150 residential apartments.

It will include a new bus station, which will cater for local and MetroBus services. A footbridge will also be built over Merlin Road for pedestrians and cyclists.

While this is an amazing opportunity for South Gloucestershire, nearby towns and cities, including Newport, Bristol, Bath, Swindon and even Taunton are concerned about the impact such an expansion would have on their trade.
