Down memory lane: Bristol City target best Cup run since 1989
Bristol City host Hull in the fourth round of the League Cup tonight. It's their best run in the competition since 1989, when they made it all the way to the semi-finals.
In Bristol City's fairly undistinguished League Cup history, this was as close as they've come to going all the way.
Here, we look back at their last shot back in 1989
The fight to the final: first leg
It was a semi-final that still burns brightly in the memory some 27 years later.
City, a 3rd Division team, had it all to do against one of the pre-eminent sides of the time - Nottingham Forest.
But away from home they managed to hold out for a one-all draw to set up the 2nd leg back in Bristol.
The fight to the final: second leg
It's this match - and one pivotal moment - that City supporters who packed out Ashton Gate that Sunday afternoon have never forgotten.
The tie was still in the balance and goalless. Another tense 90 minutes were almost up. City won a corner...
After that shot hit the post, Forest scored an extra time winner and advanced to the final at Wembley.
And all these years later, Walsh says he hasn't been allowed to forget.
Joe Jordan was Bristol City player manager then - he can't believe it's taken his old club so long just to advance beyond the 3rd round again.
Today's manager knows all about 1989 but wants to make new cup history.
Should they beat Hull tonight and reach the the quarter-final, City's players could write themselves into club folklore and finally consign this most painful cup near miss to the past.
