Taunton through to FA Cup after 35 year wait
There were wild scenes among Taunton Town's players and supporters last night after the club secured a 0-1 win away at Hemel Hemstead to reach the first round of the FA Cup for only the second time in their history. The club, who play in the eighth tier of English football had drawn 0-0 on Saturday in the final qualifying round and made the trip to Hemel Hemstead knowing victory would secure a home tie with National League side Barrow.
A tight match saw just the one goal scored, Jordan Rodgers slotting home a penalty to send his side into the first round proper for the first time in 35 years, prompting jubilant scenes in the dressing room:
In fact, Taunton Town's Twitter feed went into a frenzy for a few hours as the result filtered out to those who follow the club.
And in true FA Cup spirit Hemel Hemstead were gracious in defeat, offering the opposition the best of luck for the next round which will be played on Saturday November 5th.
