He's done it! Elation as 401 marathon man crosses final finish line
A charity runner from Bristol who has taken on an epic challenge to complete 401 marathons in as many days, has crossed the finish line.
Ben Smith ran his last marathon at home in Bristol with hundreds of his supporters. Thousands turned out to cheer him on as he came over the line in Millennium Square.
He decided to take on the challenge to raise money for anti-bullying charities after his own experiences of bullying nearly drove him to take his own life.
Ben has already raised £200,000 for two charities close to his heart – Kidscape and Stonewall.
Injuries have prevented the 34-year-old from running for 401 consecutive days but he has kept to his schedule by making up the lost mileage.
Over 9,000 people have joined Mr Smith on parts of his challenge with hundreds of runners joining him in Bristol today.
Mr Smith twice tried to take his own life and suffered a mini-stroke aged 29 following years of bullying and physical abuse at boarding school.
A friend encouraged him to join a running club during his recovery and he found it helped him regain mental and physical health.
