One apple + one orange = healthy learning

A school in Cornwall has taken time out on its normal curriculum to teach a healthier lifestyle.

Instead of Maths and English, pupils at St. Breock Primary School are learning the benefits of eating better food and leading an active life.

And - they're using their new found skills to teach their parents a thing or two as well.

For a fortnight the school is swapping normal lessons to teach the benefits of healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

The youngest children are learning about the colour and variety of food. Valerie Watts, St. Breock Primary School told us:

The school, which is in Wadebridge, has brought in foodie expert Lizzie Heath.

When we visited some children were making a mango smoothie,a tuna pasta salad and a fruit salad.

And it seems that healthy eating may be catching - with some even preferring it to chocolate!

But it's not just about healthy eating, the children are also being encourage to lead a healthy active lifestyle.

They're being encouraged to play boules, go beach surfing and also walk to school instead of being driven by mum and dad.

The school hopes the initiative will also encourage parents to look at their lifestyles.

And they've changed the school's menu too, ensuring there's not many cakes and puddings, and instead more fruit.

And things are different at home too - with many parents switching the processed for the fresh.

It's become so popular - it might be hard to get your hands on some!
