New book aimed at teaching inclusion to children
A book written by parents of children with Down's syndrome is being given out to pupils to teach them about the importance of inclusion.
'Going to School' is aimed at three and four year olds in Cornwall and takes the reader on a journey through a typical school day.
It shows children having fun learning alongside their peers. Some of the children in the book happen to have Down's syndrome and some of them don't.
Cornwall Council plans to give a copy of the book to all three to four-year-olds starting school in the county over the next four years.
It hopes by doing so it will encourage children to celebrate diversity and understand that their classmates are "more the same, than different."
The Cornwall Down Syndrome Support Group had to find around £5,500 to get the book published.
They raised money through jumble sales, cake sales, and lots of bag packing at local shops and supermarkets.
It's hoped sharing picture books will be a great way to help young children discover more about their world and take their first steps in learning to read.
Comedian Miranda Hart - who grew up in Torquay - is among those who've supported the project led by a group of parents in Cornwall.
