Scarlett Keeling's mother hopes for justice after eight-years of 'hell'

The mother of a teenager found dead in Goa hopes to finally get justice for her daughter - after eight years of what she describes as "a living hell".

Scarlett Keeling from North Devon died in February 2008 while travelling with her family in the South Indian province of Anjuna.

The 15-year-old went to a Valentine's beach party on her own.

But the next morning her body was found swept up on the sand with ecstasy, cocaine and LSD in her system.

Scarlett's body was found on Anjuna Beach in Goa in 2008.

It is alleged two men plied Scarlett with drugs, raped her and left her on the beach where she drowned.

Samson D'Souza and Placido Carvalho are accused of causing Scarlett's death.

But they can only been charged with culpable homicide - the charge down from murder - due to a lack of evidence gathered at the time.

Scarlett's mother Fiona told ITV News she doesn't know what went wrong on the night her daughter died but she wasn't supposed to be out alone.

She said: "She was asking the accused for a way to get home, that's as far as I know. From there, they gave her alcohol and a concoction of drugs.

"I think the police knew from the beginning what had happened because they had the accused in custody after three days.

"But they tried to make it look like an accident because they told me she was wearing swimwear - which she wasn't.

"I was suspicious to start with. I asked them if they had found any of her other clothes. They said no.

"Then three days later when I was on the beach I found her underwear and her slippers so I knew they'd been lying. They hadn't even looked."

More than six years after court proceedings began, Scarlett's mother Fiona has flown out to Goa to hear the verdicts.

She said: "For a long time I was angry it wasn't murder - because she was murdered, without a doubt.

"The only worrying thing really is there might not be enough evidence there in court to convict them.

"It should never have taken this long to get to court. It's been an exhausting and harrowing experience."
