Two rescued from submerged car after it plunges into lake

Two people have been pulled from a car after it plunged 20ft into a lake and overturned.

A desperate rescue mission was launched by locals and emergency services at Hooe Lake as they raced into the water to save the man and woman.

After freeing the man, police say he was given CPR at the scene before being rushed to Derriford Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Specialist fire crews then managed to pull the woman from the water. Her condition is also unknown.

Police and emergency services were called at 1.55pm after reports the car was in the lake.

It ended up on its roof and was quickly submerged in the water.

Police, ambulance, the air ambulance, HM Coastguard and Lifeboat and MoD Police, all attended.

Barton Road has been closed by police.
