A target date has been set for the Bloodhound Project's 800mph record attempt - 20 years after Thrust SSC set the existing record.

The development project had been on hold in recent months because of a funding shortage, but new sponsorship deals mean engineers can now resume their work.

October 2017 will mark the 20th anniversary of the current land speed record - 763mph, which was set by Thrust SSC in the US desert. The company are marking the occasion by attempting to set a new World Land Speed Record.

Bloodhound intends to raise this to 800mph, running in South Africa.

The car unveiled to the public in September 2015 was a ‘trial-build’, without fluids, done in part to check the fit of over 3500 bespoke components.

The first practice loading of Bloodhound into the 747 will take place during the Farnborough International Airshow on 11 July.
