Police investigating a hit and run have released an image of a seriously injured motorcyclist - hoping it will prompt the driver to come forward.

Gerald Stockwell was left with a collapsed lung and multiple fractures when he was knocked off his bike in Lechlade.

Investigating officers hope the image pricks the conscience of the motorist who hit the 66-year-old on June 19.

He was riding his new Triumph Bonneville when a vehicle moved onto the wrong side of the road and collided with him before driving off at speed.

As he approached the junction with Hambridge Lane, there were several stationary vehicles queuing into Lechlade.

Mr Stockwell was heading in the opposite direction out of the town when a vehicle overtook the queuing traffic, moving onto the wrong side of the road towards him.

The light blue hatchback collided with the motorbike, knocking Mr Stockwell, from Swindon, to the floor.

The vehicle is described as having a metallic finish, has a loud performance-type exhaust and is the size of a Renault Clio.

Its driver was a white man in his early to mid-twenties, clean shaven wearing a grey woollen type hat pulled down over his face.
