'Unsafe' school runs put parents off walking

More than 7 in 10 people in the South West believe more parents would abandon their cars for the school run, if the journey was safer. >That's according to the road safety charity Brake, which is holding its annual Giant Walk to highlight the need for lower speed limits, cycle lanes, wide pavements and safe places to cross the road.

Brake’s annual Giant Walk, sees thousands of children from schools across the UK holding walking events to celebrate road safety and highlight the benefits that walking and cycling can bring.

Overall, in the South West, 53% of people think the best thing we can do to keep kids safe on the way to school is more designated walking and cycling routes.
