European Green Capital: £4000 spent on pies for one event in 2015

The Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees has announced an independent report into how money was spent during Bristol's year as European Green Capital in 2015.

It comes after 600 invoices were released from around 200 organisations which supplied goods and services to Bristol 2015 Ltd., the independent company set up to promote and deliver the year's events.

Among the invoices published are a bill for £4000 spent on pies for an event in January 2015 and £2700 on media training for Andrew Garrad, the Chairman of the organising committee.

The issue has caused controversy since protestors overshadowed a ceremony at Colston Hall in February when Bristol handed over its title as European Green Capital to Ljubljana in Slovenia.

The then Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson rebuffed questions over how the city spent £8 million in its year as Green Capitalsaying the "proper accounts will be published at the proper time".
