Arthur the vulture found safe and well at Royal Navy base in Somerset

A vulture that was carried away by a gust of wind at the Bath and West Show last Wednesday has been reunited with his owner after landing at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton.

The white-headed vulture had been spotted around Somerset and Wiltshire after being blown off course during a show last week.

The station said it was not used to vultures but he had been quite at home flying with the Royal Navy, staying long enough to allow an expert from the Bird Control Unit to bring him to safety.

Arthur was reunited this morning with his owner Ben Potter, the Head Falconer from the Birds of Prey Display Team based in Scotch Corner in North Yorkshire.

It was a moment Ben had been hoping for for nearly a week.

When Arthur was first spotted RNAS Yeovilton's Bird Control Unit were alerted by Air Traffic Control.

He was retrieved and brought into the sanctuary of the Bird Control Unit where he was fed, checked and settled awaiting the arrival of Ben.
