One of the country's biggest celebrations of rural life is getting underway in Somerset. More than 100,000 visitors are expected at the Royal Bath & West Show at the Shepton Mallet showground.

This year's president Michael Eavis has promised to bring a festival feel to the four day event. Visitors will have the opportunity to quiz farming industry leaders and celebrate the best in British agriculture, food and drink.

The upcoming EU referendum is a big talking point, with the first event of the day at 8am including a debate on whether the UK is better off in or out. Confirmed speakers include CLA deputy president Tim Breitmeyer, Neil Parish MP and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, with Defra ministers also invited.

Farmer Ed Green, whose cattle graze on the Mendip Hills, helped win protected EU status for the Westcountry Beef and Lamb brands two years ago. He says agricultural trade is dependent on Europe.
