A high-court ruling in favour of a father who took his daughter out of school during term time, has provided hope for thousands of parents across the West Country.

Jon Platt was fined £120 by Isle of Wight Council after he took his family on the holiday, which included a visit to Disney World, without permission from his child's school.

Today the court ruled that because of his daughter's regular attendance, Jon Platt had no case to answer.

The ruling is particularly significant for Emma and Jo Clarke from Exeter, who face a trip to court within the next few weeks, after they took their children off for five days in September. Their trip was classed as unauthorised.

The couple, also refused to pay the fine and say they're determined to make a stand.

Emma told ITV News Westcountry tonight, that the case proved fighting for the right to take children out of school is worthwhile.

Devon County Council has told us it's awaiting guidance from the Department for Education while it reviews the law, in the light of today's judgment.
