Hayfever warning for allergy sufferers this Spring

Hayfever season has kicked off with tree pollen causing sinuses of sufferers to perk up.>Sufferers are being warned of a perfect storm of conditions that could lead to symptoms worsening as the better weather rolls in.

The grass pollen season has begun as rising temperatures are warming the region up.

According to the Met Office, the pollen count in the South West is already reaching high levels and rising temperatures this week will make the situation worse.>One of the wettest Winters on record combined with forecast balmy weather could mean a rise in grass pollen they predict, in late May and June.

SELF-HELP TIPS

  • wearing wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting in your eyes when you're outdoors

  • taking a shower and changing your clothes after being outdoors to remove the pollen on your body

  • staying indoors when the [pollen count](http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Hay-fever/Pages/Symptoms.aspx#Pollen count) is high (over 50 grains per cubic metre of air)

  • applying a small amount of Vaseline (petroleum gel) to the nasal openings to trap pollen grains
