All aboard! Celebrating 40 years of the high speed train

Locomotives from around the country are in Bristol this Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate 40 years of the High Speed Train.

Great Western Railway's depot at St Philips Marsh is open to the public with displays of diesel and steam trains.

To celebrate 40 years since the first High Speed Train first came into service, the event will showcase a unique collection of locomotives, both diesel and steam, from all over the country, as well as rolling stock from the GWR fleet.

The day will also be raising money for a charity which helps children with disabilities and special needs. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to North Somerset charity Springboard Opportunity Group.>A special retro livery is due to be unveiled to mark the anniversary.

The first of the trains has been repainted in the original livery. It has travelled 9 million miles from Paddington to Reading, Swindon and Bristol.

125's from all over the country attended the event.

It is only the second time GWR has opened its doors to the public at St Philip's Marsh.
