Tributes paid to young mother who died after 'explosion-like' crash
Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old mother named locally as Lucy Vaughan who died after a road accident in the Forest of Dean.
She died after a blue Nissan Primera crashed into garden fences and then mounted a curb, in Wood Street.
Witnesses say the crash sounded like an explosion, and the car demolished garden fences and a brick wall.
Mike Martin and his wife heard the car smash into their fence.
The pair said their thoughts were with Lucy Vaughan's family and young daughter.
Poignant tributes have been placed at the scene - with one saying, "You will always be remembered, your loving granddad", while another says simply "Can't believe you're gone."
The police say that a patrol van had turned around, pulled up behind the car and flashed its blue lights at a junction. But instead of pulling over the car drove off. Police say they did not try to chase it, but came across the crash a couple of minutes later.
The police have voluntarily referred the incident to the watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
The 21 year old driver of the car, arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, has been released on police bail until June.
