Police clamp down on children throwing objects from bridge

The bridge at Longwell Green used by children to target motorists

Police in South Gloucestershire have enforced anti-social behaviour controls to stop children throwing objects from a pedestrian bridge on to a dual carriageway. Bricks, concrete blocks, wood, manhole covers and even a shopping trolley have been dropped from a walkway above the A4174 Avon Ring Road in Longwell Green. The dispersal orders allow police to take home unaccompanied under 16s between 9pm and 6am.

Two 15-year-old boys have already been arrested for breaching the dispersal order. They were collected from custody by their parents with no further action taken by police.

In January a lorry driver was injured when a supermarket trolley was thrown from the same bridge and it smashed through his windscreen. The 43-year-old suffered cuts to his hands from glass and was left in shock.
