Capsized trawler to be lifted out of Dartmouth Harbour by salvage vessel later today

A salvage vessel will today begin to lift a capsized fishing boat that has been partially submerged for nearly three weeks in Dartmouth Harbour.

Five fisherman had to be rescued from the Saint Christophe after it capsized when the boat sought shelter from rough seas earlier this month.

A 55 metre barge will now be used to lift the trawler which has been sinking in the harbour for nearly three weeks.

The St Christophe was one of three French vessels which sought shelter from stormson 10 March.

Ten crew members had to be rescued when two of those boats listed heavily.

Concerns have been raised about the amount of fuel still on board the vessel and how much of it is leaking into the harbour. Two tonnes of fuel have already been collected and disposed of.
