Storm Katie batters the West Country

70 mph winds and heavy rain have been battering the South West. >Storm Katie has passed through the region causing flooding and bringing down trees. >Lee Dolbear from Weymouth sent us this photograph - he says it looks like Broadchurch but is actually Weymouth beach after Storm Katie had passed through.

TRAVEL

  • All sailings cancelled on Scillonian Ferry between Penzance and Isles of Scilly due to weather.

  • Replacement bus service running on Great Western Railway between Liskeard and Looe due to flooding.

  • A3052 Swan Hill Road in Devon blocked both ways due to flooding between Cownhayne Lane and B3172 (The Axmouth turn).

  • A379 both ways closed, slow traffic due to fallen tree between Orchard Hill and Yealm Park. Motorists advised to use the A38 instead following a large tree thats come down and is hanging down in to the road.

WEATHER

Early rain and gales, especially across eastern counties, will quickly clear to the east. >Brighter conditions will follow on for a time, but further heavy showers will return to Devon and Cornwall later. >Winds will steadily ease through the day. Maximum temperature 11 degrees.
