Plymouth Albion RFC goes into administration

Plymouth Albion Rugby Club has announced it has gone into administration.

The club says it has struggled to raise enough money to clear long-standing debts and needs to sell to a new investor to keep going.

Albion, who sit third in the National League 1 table, almost entered administration in 2015 but the club was saved by a £250,000 cash injection from local businesses.

In a statement the board said:

Director of Rugby Graham Dawe had put together a young squad at the start of the season after many of the club's senior players had moved on.

The board said one of the factors in its decision had been the desire to ensure the Director of Rugby would be able to retain players in his squad for next season.

The board says it has taken the decision to go into administration because it could see the club could not meet its objectives in its current debt situation and with its current spending.

It said finding a solvent solution to the club's future was now unlikely.

The club says it will make further statements when it has more information.
