'You can have kids': Gay dad encourages others to adopt

Local authorities are appealing for more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to consider adopting or fostering children.

At the moment there are more than a thousand children in the care of local authorities across the West.

But many people who'd like to come forward to give a child a great home often don't because they think they won't be suitable.

This week there's a new campaign to make it clear that sexuality isn't a barrier to adoption.

Bristol man Simon Hobeck adopted a child with his husband two years ago - and was surprised by how accepting people were.

It is LGBT adoption and fostering week - and there are events in our region to introduce people and families to the adoption or fostering process.
