1300+ appointments & operations postponed due to strike

More than 1,300 appointments and operations have been postponed at hospitals across the West as the third junior doctors strike over a contract row with the government got under way.

The walkout started at 8am this morning (9 March) and this time will last 48 hours - the longest one so far.

Meanwhile for the first time the [county of Somerset is also in 'Black Alert'](http://Somerset hospitals declare ) - which means hospitals in the county cannot cope with the number of people coming into the A&E department because not enough people are being discharged. >Here are the figures ITV News have compiled of all the operations and appointments affected across the region.

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust and Great Western Hospital would not provide the figures for the number of operations and appointments disrupted by the junior doctors industrial action today (9 March).

This is the third time these both trusts have refused to provide their figures. North Bristol NHS Trust will provide their figures tomorrow.
