Mother celebrates after all 3 boys in her life survive heart surgery

A West Country mother says Mother's Day is extra special for her family. Anna Symonds two sons and her husband have all had to have life saving heart surgery - one of which happened this day two years ago.

It marks the two year anniversary of her youngest son's heart operation when he was a baby. But also marks a day she's thankful for her family. As both her sons and her husband Edward have all had open heart surgery.

Thomas was the first to undergo heart surgery at just five weeks old. The couple, who live in Weston-super-Mare, later discovered during a pregnancy scan that their second child had a more complex heart condition and also needed to be operated on after birth.

Then Dad Edward discovered he had a 4cm hole in his heart - while be x-rayed for cracked ribs- and was told he needed urgent surgery too.

The couple's youngest son will require more surgery as his condition is life limiting. But Anna says despite having had a turbulent few years. She's thankful to have her family and to be a mother.
