Amazing pictures show well-known traveller John Treagood a year on from the death of his horse
A well-known Devon traveller who was left stranded on a roundabout when his horse died has a new companion and is now doing well.
New pictures have emerged of John Treagood a year after the sad loss of his horse Gildor.
The Irish cob horse, which for 18 years carried Mr Treegood and his small wagon home around Devon, died in 2015. The pair, who were a well known sight in the Westcountry, would travel around the area depending on "which way my horse goes".
When Gildor died the image of the wagon stranded at an Exeter Roundabout touched hearts around the world, and the 80 year old was inundated with donations to help him buy a new horse.
Since then some people became worried about Mr Treagood - concerned that they hadn't seem him in a while.
But these pictures by photographer Kilian Hall show him safe and well. He's joined by new horse Misty and his two dogs.
It's another instalment in the life story of Mr Treagood - which has been a very interesting one. Originally from Kent, he joined the Army and left after six years after being blinded in one eye. Using his army pay to get an education, John gained a BA in medieval history and a PhD in environmental studies.
He became a freelance lecturer before one day picking up his backpack and going for a walk - he hasn't stopped travelling since and is still enjoying life on the road with his new horse.
