Missing DJ Derek: Family start process to have him presumed dead
The family of missing DJ Derek have started the legal process of getting him presumed legally dead.
Derek Serpell-Morris, 73, who was well-known in Bristol, hasn't been seen since he disappeared in July last year.
His niece has now confirmed the family is making an application under the Presumption of Death Act, which would be considered by a judge at the High Court.
If successful, it will mean the family can get power of attorney over his bank accounts, which have not been touched since he disappeared more than seven months ago.
His nephew told The Bristol Post that Derek's account was still being charged for the rent for his St Paul's flat and utility bills.
