Man admits causing death of David Hick in Bruton hit and run
A man's pleaded guilty to causing the death of a Somerset pensioner after he knocked him down with his car after drinking in a pub for several hours.
Robert Finlay admitted causing death by careless driving whilst under the influence of alcohol after he hit 84-year-old David Hick in Bruton in October 2014.
He was keen to hide his face as he left court - walking into a television camera as he couldn't see where he was going.
In court he pleaded guilty to causing the death of David Hick by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol. He'd already pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and will be sentenced later.
Our reporter David Woodland was at court and heard the details given to the jury about what happened in the last few minutes of Mr Hick's life:
As the 84-year-old crossed Cole Road in Bruton at 8.30pm he was driven into by Robert Finlay. The windscreen of Finlay's Chrysler Voyager was damaged from the force of the impact but Finlay didn't stop.
Mr Hick was found in the road by another motorist, bleeding from head wounds. He was critically injured and although paramedics attended him he died that evening.
