Meet Archie: Cornwall's new fire dog

Raring to go - Archie the fire dog

Meet Archie - the latest addition to the crew at Cornwall Fire and Rescue.

The young pup is less than two years old and recently completed his training as a Fire Investigation Dog.

Archie is taking on the role previously carried out by the much loved Nelson who sadly passed away late last year. Nelson was hugely popular and had almost 4000 followers on twitter.

Archie hoping for the same success and already has a twitter account of his own - @Archie_FireDog.

Apart from having fun with the rest of the crew, the Cocker Spaniel has a serious job to do - helping to identify the cause of fires which are thought to have been the work of arsonists.

20 month old Archie

The young dog has been trained to identify minute traces of substances such as petrol and lighter fluid.

To Archie, it's just a game but he's using his unique skills to do some very important work.
