Glastonbury bank closures could leave residents with nowhere to manage finances
Three banks in Glastonbury are closing within weeks of each other, leaving the town without anywhere for its residents to collect cash or manage their finances.
The Conservative MP for Wells James Heappey today raised the issue in Prime Minister's Questions, saying the banks should think again before shutting down.
The Prime Minister agreed that the "physical presence" of banks in market towns was important.
HSBC closed its Glastonbury branch back in November and now both Lloyds and Barclays are planning to do the same.
A protest organised by residents earlier this month to demonstrate against the bank closures was attended by the organiser of the Glastonbury festival Michael Eavis.
