Services resume at church two years after flood destruction

It's been a long time coming, but almost exactly two years after the floods halted worship, the Church of St Peter and St John is open again.

Water filled the church for the first time in living memory. It was a bitter blow to those who wanted a place to gather their thoughts, and find a place of refuge as the floods filled their own homes, but at the time there was no where water didn't reach.

Pictures of the flooded graves were seen everywhere, many were damaged by the thudding waves that broke them from their bases, but local stonemasons repaired them free of charge.

In the months after the destruction - local people, businesses and others raised enough money to restore everything. There was so much generosity they even had enough to replace the roof - a case of a silver lining to the flooding clouds.
