County council cuts £1m from Dorset youth services
On a day when they should be in class, scores of Dorset's young people skipped lessons to educate councillors on the value of youth centres.
The council now plans to target youth work towards vulnerable people in schools and let communities take over youth centres.
But many taking a stand say they really want someone to support them away from school. Lauryn Haskins is a youth club member who says the support she receives from youth workers is irreplaceable.
Councillors debated for 3 hours trying to work out how to save £20 million from the budget, but ultimately agreed to push the cuts through.
The authority warned it's also inevitable there will be cuts to adult social care services as a result of the lower grant from the Government.
It's by far, the area where the council spends most of its money.
So disappointment for the youth of Dorset and a warning other groups are going to lose out.
The unanswered question for now remains, where's the other £19 million being cut from?
