Teachers at top academy announce plans to strike next week
Teachers at a top secondary school in South Gloucestershire are set to go on strike next week over heavy workloads.
More than 70 staff members at John Cabot Academy intend to walk out next Tuesday (12 January). If talks fail, a two-day strike will follow. Union members say the move comes after discussions with the school's leadership broke down just before Christmas.
SCHOOL BOSSES 'DISAPPOINTED' BY 'UNNECESSARY' STRIKE ACTION
The Cabot Learning Federation (CLF), which sponsors the John Cabot Academy, say it remains committed to resolving the concerns through discussion and wants to avoid a strike.
Chief Executive of the Cabot Learning Federation says he's disappointed that strike action has been taken so quickly.
The CLF said that nine of the fourteen points of concern were resolved in talks, and two were partially resolved.
But with three key areas as yet unresolved, the unions gave six dates in January on which strikes will take place.
