Community champion named in Honours list
A woman who continues to help throughout her community, despite her retirement has been named in the New Year honours list.
Glenda Frost from Devon was a district nurse for over 30 years - now at 80 years old, she spends her time organising community events to raise money for charity.
She is known for her help in the community in Willand and Cullompton, and has helped with events such as the Mid Devon show, as well as lending her services in local hospitals.
Despite retiring Glenda continues to work for the community by visiting some of her patients who are most in need of help.
She regularly calls on these people to ensure that they have all they need, also taking them to hospital appointments, collecting their pension, helping with their housework and doing any shopping that they need.
Not only that but she also helps out at the local car museum where she ensures that all the vehicles are kept clean and ready for transporting to local shows. She is the main organiser for the car section of the Mid Devon Show every year.
Brenda's main activity organising many fetes and fairs to raise money for many good causes. Each year the octogenarian holds two large fetes in her garden, raising huge amounts for the Children’s Hospice and the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
She is also a member of the local GP practice patient group where her advice and knowledge of the area is invaluable. During the week she is also part of the local Luncheon Club where she helps to provide a hot meal to those who otherwise might no have one.
Brenda told ITV News about her reaction to opening her BEM honour letter.
