A Somerset school has sent out letters to parents cancelling pupil trips to France and Germany - because of the threat of terrorism.

The parents of a Year 7 class of 11 and 12-year-olds at Kingsmead Community School in Wiveliscombe had paid £235 for their children to go on the trips.

However the school said the heightened terror alerts on those countries meant going to them could put the children and their teachers in a "potentially dangerous and stressful situation".

Parents of Kingsmead pupils got this letter cancelling their children's school trips.

The letter, signed by the school's headteacher, assistant headteacher and teachers in charge of the trips, goes on to say that the school is searching for safer alternatives, and will provide refunds to parents who want them.

The letters are being discussed at an assembly at the school today.
