Hundreds of people including many veterans have attended a rally in support of a former Royal Marine from Somerset.

Alexander Blackman, who is from Taunton and served with Plymouth-based 42 Commando, was jailed for life in 2013 for murdering a wounded Afghan insurgent in Helmand. His wife Claire is hoping new evidence will mean the case can be referred back to the Court of Appeal with a view to the verdict being overturned or at least reduced to manslaughter.

Leading psychiatrists have found Mr Blackman, known as Marine A, was suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness at the time.

More than £750,000 has been raised to fund the "Justice for Marine A" campaign and today supporters rallied as Claire Blackman submitted her application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in Birmingham.
